Soccer Game Preview: Gonzales vs. Carmel

The Gonzales Spartans will head out to face off against the Carmel Padres at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Gonzales sitting on three straight wins and Carmel on four.

Gonzales' defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Ceiba College Preparatory Academy with a sharp 3-0 victory. Given Gonzales' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Ceiba College Preparatory Academy is ranked 1059th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gonzales hit Ceiba College Preparatory Academy with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Edgar Santiago, Miguel Ibarra, and Ulisses Mancillas.

Meanwhile, Carmel's game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against North Monterey County by a score of 2-0. That's two games straight that the Padres have won by exactly two goals.

Gonzales has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2-3 record this season. As for Carmel, their win bumped their record up to 5-2-1.

Gonzales skirted past Carmel 1-0 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Will Gonzales repeat their success, or does Carmel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
