Basketball Recap: Clinton Prairie Takes Down Lafayette Central Catholic in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Clinton Prairie rose to the challenge on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gophers have posted since February 6th.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mikey Stapleton, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Stapleton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bobby Metzger, who posted 11 points and five assists.

The win was the 16th in a row for Clinton Prairie, bringing their record for this year to 24-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.9 points. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-15 record.

Coming up, Clinton Prairie will challenge Triton at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Clinton Prairie knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Triton likes a good challenge.
