Football Recap: Schuylerville Beats Granville/Whitehall for Their 16th Straight Victory

Schuylerville extended their winning streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Friday, bumping them up to 4-0. They were the clear victors by a 41-16 margin over the Granville/Whitehall Golden Horde. With the Horses ahead 27-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Ben VanVegthen threw for 50 yards and one TD. Ernie DaCosta was his top target, picking up 50 receiving yards and one touchdown.

As for Granville/Whitehall, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 335th, while Schuylerville is ranked 107th).

When it comes to explaining why Granville/Whitehall lost, don't look at Chad Monty. Despite the final result, he rushed for 218 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Monty's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his eighth straight game with at least 112 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Schuylerville will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Hoosick Falls/Tamarac on Friday. As for Granville/Whitehall, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mechanicville at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
