Softball Recap: Cannon Cougars vs. Covenant Day Lions

Cannon had won five straight at home, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 13-6-1 to make it six. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Covenant Day Lions. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won eight in a row.

Addie Hartz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Carly Benz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Andie Evans was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Cannon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Covenant Day struck out nine times.

As for Covenant Day, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6-1. They haven't had much luck with Cannon recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

On Covenant Day's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Houseton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Cannon has already played their next matchup, a 13-11 defeat against Charlotte Christian on the 1st. Covenant Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
