After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Leo, DeKalb was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Lakeland Lakers 9-3. This was payback for the Barons, who suffered a 13-10 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Summer Haverstock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Stella Mix was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Serena Wineland, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: DeKalb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland only managed nine hits.
DeKalb's victory bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Lakeland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-18.
The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. DeKalb will square off against East Noble at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lakeland, they will take on Prairie Heights at 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
