Baseball Recap: Concord's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Concord came into Friday's contest having lost 13 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Salisbury Hornets on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spiders needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Reed Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Martin wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Porter, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Porter a new career-high in RBI (two). Maxwell Pryduluk was another, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Concord's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Salisbury, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Concord will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against South Rowan at 6:30 p.m. As for Salisbury, they will welcome Concord at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
