Basketball Recap: First Coast Buccaneers vs. Ribault Trojans
First Coast lost against Ribault back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The First Coast Buccaneers were dealt a 90-50 defeat at the hands of the Ribault Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Trojans are ranked 44th).
First Coast lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dakari Johnson, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Gooden, who scored six points and ten rebounds.
Ribault's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaleb McDuffie, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 17 points and seven assists. McDuffie has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jamian Jackson was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 11 points along with five assists and four steals.
First Coast dropped their record down to 7-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Ribault, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.
First Coast will take on Sandalwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. First Coast is facing Sandalwood at the right time seeing as Sandalwood is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Ribault, they will square off against Palm Beach Lakes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
