Basketball Recap: Amaris Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gonzales over La Grange

Gonzales was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They received a blow as they fell 53-36 to the La Grange Leopards. The Apaches were down 41-20 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Gonzales lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Amaris Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Johnson is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ellie Lester, who posted nine points and five steals.

Gonzales' loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for La Grange, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Gonzales will head out to challenge Long Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Grange, they will venture away from home to face off against Cedar Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
