Yuma and Burlington are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Outlaws will host the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give Yuma their first taste of in-conference action this season.
Yuma managed to slip by Brush the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Outlaws had to suffer through a 36-7 loss at the hands of the Beetdiggers. The loss was the Outlaws' first of the season.
Meanwhile, Burlington put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Denver Christian to the tune of 52-23. Considering the Cougars have won three contests by more than 28 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Yuma better keep an eye on Scout Humrich. He was instrumental in Burlington's win, rushing for 138 yards and five scores on only eight carries. Thanks to that big game, Humrich is now up to 10 rushing touchdowns on the season. Jason Saucedo was another key player, rushing for 170 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Burlington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 342 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 315 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Yuma fell to 3-1. As for Burlington, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Yuma has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 249 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Burlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 377 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Yuma came up short against Burlington when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 20-12. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Cougars' Weston Schaal, who rushed for 82 yards and one TD on only eight carries, and also threw for 53 yards and one touchdown on only five passes. Now that the Outlaws know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
