Basketball Recap: Columbia City Falls Short of South Bend Saint Joseph in the Playoffs

Columbia City and South Bend Saint Joseph squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Columbia City had to settle for second. They took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Huskies are ranked tenth).

South Bend Saint Joseph's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah King, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 13 points. Chase Konieczny was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.

Columbia City moved to 17-10 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 24-3.

Columbia City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, they will face off against Maconaquah at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Maconaquah knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matches -- so hopefully South Bend Saint Joseph likes a good challenge.
