The Ramona Convent Tigers will head out to challenge the Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Ramona Convent is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary will be up against a hot Ramona Convent squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Tigers walked away with a 10-5 victory over Mary Star of the Sea on Monday.
Ramona Convent let Citlali Garcia and Delicia Murillo run wild. Garcia went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles, while Murillo scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Murillo a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Abigail Vazquez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Ramona Convent kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary hadn't done well against Mary Star of the Sea recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Stars with a sharp 20-2 win. Considering the Cardinals have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Ochoa made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilah Ramos, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Maraya Hernandez was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Ramona Convent, their record is now 12-5.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ramona Convent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .557. However, it's not like Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary struggles in that department as they've averaged .518. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ramona Convent beat Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary 12-9 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
