Baseball Game Preview: Nokomis Warriors vs. Brewer Witches

The Nokomis Warriors will head out to square off against the Brewer Witches at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Nokomis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Nokomis is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Belfast, who was ranked 11th at the time (Nokomis was ranked 13th). The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Lions 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since May 26, 2025.

Seth Bowden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Owen Russell was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Jeff Carr also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Brewer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Bangor, falling 13-0. Witches fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Rams since Friday.

Nokomis' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brewer, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Nokomis came out on top in a nail-biter against Brewer in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Witches have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
