First baseman, outfielder tops all in driving in runs a year after she led the nation in home runs.

LSU-bound senior Abigail Savoy finished off a fantastic high school softball career Saturday with a fourth straight state championship. She may just wind up the national leader in RBI as well.

The Notre Dame (Crowley, La.) first baseman and outfielder leads the nation, according to the MaxPreps leaderboard, in driving in runs with 81 for the Pioneers (30-5), who captured the LHSAA Division III title with a 6-4 win over St. Charles Catholic.

Savoy finished as the team leader in batting average (.566), hits (56) and doubles (13) while finishing second in runs (56) and home runs (24). Teammate Corine Poncho leads the country in home runs (32).

For her career, she had 163 hits in 301 at-bats (.542 average) with 39 doubles and 58 home runs. She'll be joined at LSU by teammate Maci Bergeron (.459, 16 home runs, 51 RBI) while Poncho is headed to Houston.

Savoy, who led the nation in homers (30) in 2021, opened 2022 with six RBI, a feat she accomplished three more times. She drove in at least three runs in 15 different games.
