Baseball Recap: Bell Continues Home Dominance on Monday

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Bell and Bronson have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. Bell was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Bronson. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Jackson Philman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bell is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. Philman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rocco Iovinelli, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jorge Gonzalez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Bell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bronson only posted an OBP of .136.

Bell's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Bronson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bell will host Chiefland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bronson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
