Baseball Game Preview: Lake County Falcons vs. Obion County Rebels

Lake County and Obion County are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Rebels at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Obion County will be up against a hot Lake County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Falcons' pitchers stepped up to hand Humboldt a 19-0 shutout on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly 19 runs.

John Aydon Cochran and Sawyer Roberson made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cochran pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Roberson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Cochran a new career-high in strikeouts (two). At bat, Cochran scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Roberson scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Cochran has become a key player for Lake County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-14-1 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Andrew Belt looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Lake County let Cade Lanier and Chance Estes run wild. Lanier scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Estes scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Those three runs gave Lanier a new career-high. Bryson Johnson was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Lake County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Obion County can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They put the hurt on Bradford with a sharp 13-4 win. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Lake County's record now sits at 5-14-1. As for Obion County, their record is now 7-9.

Lake County might still be hurting after the 18-4 loss they got from Obion County in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
