Basketball Recap: Ivette Fernandez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Lourdes Academy

Ferguson hadn't done well against Lourdes Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Ferguson Falcons came out on top against Lourdes Academy by a score of 43-33. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Lourdes Academy are ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ferguson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ivette Fernandez, who posted ten points and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Fernandez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabella Santin, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Despite the loss, Lourdes Academy still got an impressive performance from Sophia Sandoval, who put up 13 points. That was a full 39.4% of Lourdes Academy's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Fenane, who had eight points.

The victory made it two in a row for Ferguson and bumps their season record up to 10-2. As for Lourdes Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Ferguson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-40 win against TERRA Environmental on the 8th. Lourdes Academy has also already played their next game, a 36-30 loss against North Miami Beach on the 11th.
