Basketball Game Preview: IDEA Riverview Rockets vs. Rio Hondo Bobcats

IDEA Riverview is 0-8 against Rio Hondo since November of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Rockets will face off against the Bobcats at 5:30 p.m.

IDEA Riverview is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Lyford on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Rockets were dealt a 51-11 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Rockets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1460th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 674th).

Meanwhile, Rio Hondo entered their tilt with Lyford on Friday with 15 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 16. They walked away with a 43-35 victory over the Bulldogs.

Rio Hondo's win came from a few key players that IDEA Riverview will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Abigail Atkinson, who shot 44% from the field on her way to 19 points and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Carlie Rodriguez, who posted 15 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Rio Hondo's record now sits at 23-1. As for IDEA Riverview, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

IDEA Riverview was taken down by Rio Hondo 47-19 in their previous matchup back in December of 2025. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rodriguez, who went 8-for-17 to rack up 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals.
