Basketball Recap: South County's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact South County can now relate to. They took a 59-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Calvary Saints on Wednesday. The Vipers' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Calvary's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Blackford led the charge by going 5-for-9 to rack up 23 points and three blocks. Blackford is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in each of the last 24 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Reese Huffman, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

South County's defeat dropped their record down to 19-14. As for Calvary, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-10.

South County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Calvary, they will venture away from home to challenge West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] has won 13 straight at home, while Calvary won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
