Basketball Recap: Keon Scott and Ashton Turman Secure Win for Meade

Meade's tournament run continued when they took on Walter Johnson on Friday. The Meade Mustangs wrapped up 2024 with a 74-60 win over the Walter Johnson Wildcats. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Wildcats are ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meade was led to victory by Ashton Turman and Keon Scott. Turman went 9 for 17 on his way to 23 points and six assists, while Scott went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points in addition to eight assists and eight boards. Turman continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucaya Baldridge, who posted seven points and 12 rebounds.

Meade smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meade is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.4 points per game. As for Walter Johnson, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Meade will host Chesapeake at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Meade is facing Chesapeake at the right time seeing as Chesapeake is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Walter Johnson, they will head out to challenge Wootton at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Walter Johnson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
