Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Deposit-Hancock's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, Deposit-Hancock's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Walton Warriors by a score of 66-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (62), Deposit-Hancock still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Deposit-Hancock lost, don't look at Blake Fortunato. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 34 points and ten boards. Fortunato's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Simmons, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Deposit-Hancock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Deposit-Hancock's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Walton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Deposit-Hancock will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sidney at 7:15 p.m. on January 9, 2025. Walton also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Afton at 7:15 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
