Basketball Recap: Middleburgh Comes Up Short

Middleburgh lost against Berne-Knox-Westerlo back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Middleburgh Knights had to suffer through a 76-20 loss at the hands of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 728th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 206th).

Middleburgh lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Payton Yung, who posted eight points in addition to seven blocks and five boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in blocks.

Middleburgh's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Berne-Knox-Westerlo, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Middleburgh has already played their next contest, a 39-33 victory against Mekeel Christian Academy on the 12th. As for Berne-Knox-Westerlo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 54-41 win against Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville on the 12th.
