Softball Recap: Pittston Drops Season-High Score on Hazleton Area

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pittston). They put the hurt on the Hazleton Area Cougars with a sharp 19-5 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won nine in a row.

Marina Antal was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lili Hintze, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

Pittston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .590. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in three consecutive games.

The victory got Pittston back to even at 4-4. As for Hazleton Area, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pittston will host Wyoming Valley West at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hazleton Area, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Northampton at 4:15 p.m.
