Football Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial lost against Bloomington back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Chargers were beaten by the Purple Raiders 37-6. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ky'Veon Chestnut was his usual excellent self, rushing for 146 yards and one TD while picking up 7.7 yards per carry for Bloomington. Those 146 rushing yards gave Chestnut a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keyontae Hamilton, who threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Bloomington, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-3 record.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Centennial will head out to face off against Oak Forest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bengals' defense has only allowed 14.3 points per game this season, so the Chargers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Bloomington, they will welcome Mascoutah at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Chestnut and Sean Murphy.
