Baseball Game Preview: Monessen Greyhounds vs. Serra Catholic Eagles

Monessen is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Serra Catholic Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Monessen is coming into the matchup on a 20-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Last Thursday, Monessen didn't have quite enough to beat Uniontown and fell 8-7.

RJ DiEugenio was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Giovanni DeStefano was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Serra Catholic was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell just short of Valley by a score of 2-1. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Serra Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Skaggs, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Skaggs is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another was Owen Dumbroski, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Having lost for the first time this season, Serra Catholic fell to 3-1. As for Monessen, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
