Basketball Game Preview: Homewood Patriots vs. Spain Park Jaguars

The Homewood Patriots will square off against the Spain Park Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Homewood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Spain Park likes a good challenge.

Last Monday, Homewood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 65-61 to McAdory. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (60), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Homewood got top-tier performance from Kaleb Carson, who posted 21 points and six steals. Another player making a difference was Daniel Vinson, who put up ten points and five assists.

Meanwhile, Spain Park came into Thursday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past Oak Mountain with a 62-58 victory on Thursday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Jaguars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Eagles are ranked sixth).

Spain Park's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Homewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Homewood didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Spain Park when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 59-54 win. Does Homewood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Spain Park turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
