Basketball Recap: East Mountain Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jodie Tillman and Evelyn Kannolt

East Mountain was the 39-36 winner over Cottonwood Classical Prep when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The East Mountain Timberwolves fell just short of the Cottonwood Classical Prep Coyotes by a score of 48-45 on Saturday. The Timberwolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

East Mountain's loss came despite strong showings from Evelyn Kannolt and Jodie Tillman. Kannolt dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Tillman went 5 for 11 on her way to 14 points along with seven boards and six steals. Kannolt has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played.

Cottonwood Classical Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Naomi Tracey out in front who went 5 of 11 en route to 19 points. The dominant performance gave Tracey a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Ryah Carlson, who posted nine points and eight steals.

East Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Cottonwood Classical Prep, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Mountain will challenge Cuba at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Mountain has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests. As for Cottonwood Classical Prep, they will square off against Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
