The St. Ursula Academy Bulldogs will head out to take on the Conner Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Ursula Academy came out on top against Cooper on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Bulldogs never let the Jaguars get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won three contests in a row.
O Basil was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, A Bunner was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was V Oberkorn, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Conner took on Beechwood on Thursday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Tigers. The Cougars have beaten the Tigers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.
Like St. Ursula Academy, Conner also got a great game from a two-way player: Ellie Ortiz. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Ortiz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Ortiz, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Bre Meredith was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Conner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
St. Ursula Academy's record now sits at 17-3. As for Conner, their record is now 10-13.
Conner's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. St. Ursula Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.8 strikeouts per game.
