Baseball Recap: Leigh Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Willow Glen, Leigh was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They skirted past the Westmont Warriors 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Longhorns have posted since April 11th.

Damian Hernandez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Aiden Phillips was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Leigh: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. John Arevalo III was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Leigh hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.

The victory snapped Leigh's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-9 record. As for Westmont, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season.

Leigh will have a chance to go back-to-back against Westmont: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
