Soccer Game Preview: Menlo-Atherton vs. Aragon

The Menlo-Atherton Bears will head out to square off against the Aragon Dons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Menlo-Atherton sitting on three straight victories and Aragon on four.

Last Friday, Menlo-Atherton made easy work of Carlmont and carried off a 4-1 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 3-0.

Nathan Thurlow and Mateo Sosnik scored all four of Menlo-Atherton's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 20 goals.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Aragon sidestepped Sequoia for a 2-1 victory. Given the Dons' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 238th, while the Ravens are ranked 895th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Aragon pushed their record up to 11-3-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those seven contests. As for Menlo-Atherton, their victory bumped their record up to 13-0-4.

Everything went Menlo-Atherton's way against Aragon when the teams last played back in January, as Menlo-Atherton made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Menlo-Atherton since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
