Preview: Tonopah Valley Phoenix vs. Pima Roughriders
Tonopah Valley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Pima Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Tonopah Valley rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on Phoenix Christian with a sharp 35-14 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Tonopah Valley just coasted through the last quarter.
Tonopah Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sir-izzik S?nchez caldwell out in front who gained 140 total yards and three touchdowns. Malachi Wilt was another key contributor, throwing for 322 yards and a touchdown while completing 78.1% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Pima put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 56-6 victory over Holbrook. With Pima ahead 28-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Jeremiah Martinez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 164 yards and five touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also picking up 44 receiving yards. Martinez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Sam Ray also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Tonopah Valley pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Pima, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
