Football Game Preview: Holy Savior Menard Eagles vs. Church Point Bears

The Holy Savior Menard Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Church Point Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Friday, Holy Savior Menard ended up a good deal behind Kinder and lost 50-32. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jake Vaughan, who rushed for 72 yards and one TD, and also threw for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns. 95 of those passing yards were hauled in by Matthew Hicks, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Even if they lost, Holy Savior Menard's defensive line still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jacob Jeanise and Jack Simpson, who racked up all seven sacks between them. Jeanise is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Church Point against Crowley on Friday as the squad secured a 54-14 win. Considering the Bears have won five matchups by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Church Point has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points over those games. As for Holy Savior Menard, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Holy Savior Menard suffered a grim 27-7 defeat to Church Point in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Bears' Luke Baudoin, who threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 57 yards and one score on only eight carries. Now that the Eagles know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
