Basketball Recap: Northwest Halifax Victorious

Northwest Halifax hadn't done well against North Edgecombe recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Northwest Halifax Vikings snuck past the North Edgecombe Warriors with a 53-47 victory. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Warriors back in January, they had to take a 62-36 loss.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jahmir Parker, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Parker is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Isavius Arrington was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Northwest Halifax is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for North Edgecombe, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.

Coming up, Northwest Halifax and Wilson Prep will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Wilson Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Northwest Halifax likes a good challenge. As for North Edgecombe, they will host Northampton County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Edgecombe is on a five-game streak of home wins, Northampton County a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
