Basketball Recap: Caney Creek Falls Despite Big Games from Brianna Mcbride and Mackenzie Harrah

After flying high against Willis last Wednesday, Caney Creek came back down to earth. The Caney Creek Panthers took a hard 49-34 fall against the Fulshear Chargers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1001st, while the Chargers are ranked 64th).

Mackenzie Harrah and Brianna Mcbride certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Harrah posted seven points, while Mcbride scored five points and four steals. Those four steals gave Mcbride a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Caney Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Caney Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Fulshear, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Caney Creek has already played their next game (against The Woodlands), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fulshear will host Alief Taylor at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alief Taylor knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Fulshear likes a good challenge.
