Baseball Recap: Montello Comes Up Short

Montello had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it six. They lost 8-2 to the Fall River Pirates. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hilltoppers of the 11-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

As for Fall River, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

For Fall River's part, Connor Veith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Veith was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaden Seim was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Mason Powell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

While Montello had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
