While Cardinal Newman's win against Benicia wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals' pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 2-0 shutout on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on five straight.

Chase Bromstad looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matai Fa'agata, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Cardinal Newman's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Benicia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-8.

Cardinal Newman does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Benicia, they will head out to challenge Alhambra at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 3.9, the Bulldogs 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
