Softball Game Preview: West Jessamine Colts vs. Somerset Briar Jumpers

The West Jessamine Colts are taking a road trip to challenge the Somerset Briar Jumpers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Somerset took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on West Jessamine, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, West Jessamine beat Madison Southern 11-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.

West Jessamine let Emerson Collins and Paige Hobgood run wild. Collins went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Hobgood went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles Hobgood has posted since back in April. Addi Vahle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs.

Meanwhile, Somerset was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 14-4 to Southwestern. That's two games in a row now that the Briar Jumpers have lost by exactly ten runs.

Somerset's loss dropped their record down to 8-12-1. As for West Jessamine, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.

West Jessamine beat Somerset 7-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Briar Jumpers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
