Baseball Recap: Peoria Christian Falls to Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn in First Game of Season

Peoria Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn Rockets by a score of 3-1 on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Josiah Kniep put in work no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Kniep was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Kniep wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Walder, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win (which was Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn's sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peoria Christian will square off against Farmington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Peoria Christian's pitchers better be ready for this one: Farmington has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn, they will face off against Dwight at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
