Softball Recap: Amador Takes a Loss

After flying high against Chavez last Friday, Amador came back down to earth. The Amador Buffaloes fell just short of the Rio Linda Knights by a score of 8-7 on Saturday. If the Buffaloes were looking for revenge after losing 9-0 to the Knights when the teams met back in March of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jessica Mittelstadt put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Faith DelReal was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sydney Faria, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

With the defeat, Amador broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Rio Linda, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Amador wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 6-3 loss against Argonaut on the 8th. As for Rio Linda, they have also already played their next game, a 15-7 win against Wheatland on the 8th.
