Baseball Game Preview: Abbeville Panthers vs. Ninety Six Wildcats

The Abbeville Panthers will take on the Ninety Six Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Abbeville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.

Abbeville barely beat Whitmire the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 8-2 victory on Wednesday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Trey Deason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Adam Beiler was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Oglesby, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Abbeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitmire only posted an OBP of .310.

Meanwhile, Ninety Six had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They skirted past the Hornets 7-5.

Abbeville's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Ninety Six, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Everything went Abbeville's way against Ninety Six when the teams last played back in March, as Abbeville made off with a 16-3 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
