The Bloomfield Cardinals are taking a road trip to square off against the Bloomington North Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bloomfield has four straight wins, Bloomington North has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Bloomfield had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt North Central on Thursday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Thunderbirds. The Cardinals not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 4, 2024 (when they won 21-2).
Lila Koontz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Addison Lafree was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Bella McIntosh was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
Bloomfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .463. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Southport hit Bloomington North with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars lost 11-1 to the Cardinals. The match marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Bloomington North saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaydence Silvers, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Bloomfield's record is now 11-8. As for Bloomington North, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
Bloomfield beat Bloomington North 6-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
