Basketball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Centennial's Winning Streak

Centennial dropped down to 11-2 on Saturday, ending the team's six-game streak of wins. They took a 67-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timpview Thunderbirds. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' national basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th in California, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 22nd in Utah).

As for Timpview, the win keeps them at an undefeated 10-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 70.9 points this season.

It was another big night for Dean Rueckert, who almost dropped a double-double with 28 points and nine rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 45.1% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Openshaw, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points and eight boards.

Looking ahead, Centennial will take on Bishop Gorman in a tournament on Monday. The Huskies will need to watch out since the Gaels have now posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups. Timpview and Santa Margarita will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Thunderbirds will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
