Basketball Recap: Gilmer Drops Highest Score of Season Against Murphy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gilmer). They were the clear victor by an 81-61 margin over the Murphy Bulldogs on Saturday. The Bobcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.

It was another big night for Jd Taylor, who almost dropped a double-double on 45 points and nine rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Gilmer's points. Keegen Bryant was another key player, putting up 18 points and five boards.

Gilmer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Murphy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cale Harger, who went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradey Golden, who posted 13 points and six boards.

The victory snapped Gilmer's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-9 record. As for Murphy, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Gilmer Bobcats duke it out with the Ridgeland Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilmer is facing Ridgeland at the right time seeing as Ridgeland is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Murphy, they will face off against Cherokee at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
