Basketball Recap: Somerton Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Alexander Rodriguez and Benjamin Shorr

Somerton played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Kofa Kings, falling 64-39. The Toros were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-19.

Somerton's loss came despite strong showings from Benjamin Shorr and Alexander Rodriguez. Shorr posted 13 points, while Rodriguez earned 11 points. Another player making a difference was Francisco Castillo, who put up seven points.

Kofa can attribute much of their success to Jayven Wynn, who shot 61% from the field en route to 23 points. That's the most points Wynn has posted since back in November of 2024. Jose Montoya was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Somerton's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Kofa, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Somerton will challenge Highland Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Kofa, they will square off against Paradise Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
