Baseball Game Preview: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. James Logan Colts

For the second straight game, Newark Memorial will face off against James Logan. The Cougars will head out to square off against the Colts at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Newark Memorial will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Newark Memorial proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out James Logan 6-5.

Connor Murphy was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andres Romo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Romo a new career-high in doubles (two). Anthony Medrano was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Newark Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Newark Memorial pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for James Logan, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-7 record.
