Recap: Ashland Blue Jays vs. Cheylin Cougars
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Ashland Blue Jays can now relate to. They took a serious blow against the Cougars on Friday, falling 66-27. Ashland's loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Landen McPhail and Kale Harris certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. McPhail gained 134 total yards and two touchdowns, while Harris gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns. McPhail was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 54 yards.
Cheylin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Logan McCarty led the charge by throwing for 363 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes, while also rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. McCarty has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Pablo Bermudez, who gained 173 total yards and four touchdowns.
Ashland's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Cheylin, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Ashland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cheylin will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Cunningham at 1:00 p.m. on November 25th. Cunningham is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
