Baseball Recap: Burke Beats Bryan for Their Third Straight Victory

Burke entered their tilt with Bryan on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bears a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by exactly ten runs.

Sladen Bragg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Burke is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-14 otherwise. Bragg was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Casey Gilliland and Alec Carlson did most of the damage at the plate: Gilliland went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Carlson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Burke is undefeated when Carlson posts two or more runs, but 3-15 otherwise. Kade Crichton also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Burke hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

Burke's record is now 7-15. As for Bryan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.
