It was fun while it lasted, but Staples's undefeated season came to an end after  nine games  on Tuesday. They fell to the Greenwich Cardinals  57-52. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wreckers came into the  match with a sizable advantage  in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings  (they are ranked 13th, while the Cardinals are ranked 110th).
 Staples' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Mason Tobias, who  went 6 for 8  on his way to 13  points and seven  boards. Another player making a difference was  Dhilan Lowman, who  posted 12 points.
Having lost for the first time  this season, Staples  fell to 9-1. As for Greenwich, their win  ended  a  three-game drought at home  and  bumped them up to 2-7.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Staples will challenge Wilton at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. That  contest will pit two of the most dominant  guards against one another:  Sam Clachko and  Ryan Luchetta. As for Greenwich, they will square off against Trumbull at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday.
