Basketball Recap: Madelyn Falls' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Benjamin Franklin over Gilbert Christian

Benjamin Franklin fought the good fight in their overtime match against Gilbert Christian on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 62-54 to the Gilbert Christian Knights. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-36 on January 7th.

Benjamin Franklin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madelyn Falls, who posted 19 points. With that strong performance, Falls is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Jacey Blair, who earned 16 points.

Gilbert Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaila Aston, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Aston continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Hansen, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Benjamin Franklin has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Gilbert Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-6.

Benjamin Franklin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-48 win against San Tan Foothills on the 29th. Gilbert Christian has also already played their next matchup, a 49-43 victory against Northwest Christian on the 29th.
