Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Comes Up Short

After flying high against Princeton Day last Saturday, Notre Dame came back down to earth. The Irish fell just short of the Allentown Redbirds by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 27, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Notre Dame got a good showing from Joe Lech, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Lech a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Joseph Banco made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Notre Dame's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Allentown, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-8-1.

Looking ahead, Notre Dame will face off against St. Rose at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Allentown will be paying especially close attention to the Irish's match: after the Irish face off against the Purple Roses, they'll take on Allentown again at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
