Soccer Game Preview: Southwest vs. Glenn

The Southwest Dragons will challenge the Glenn Grizzlies on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Southwest comes in on four and Glenn on five.

Southwest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Harlingen South by a score of 3-1. Given Southwest's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Harlingen South are ranked 143rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southwest hit Harlingen South with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Alfredo Plascencia, Brayan Plascencia, and Cesar Angel.

Meanwhile, Glenn kept a clean sheet against Rivera on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over the Raiders.

Southwest's win was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up five goals over those 13 games. As for Glenn, their win bumped their record up to 23-3-1.

Southwest skirted past Glenn 3-2 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southwest since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
